6/5/10 I'm a GRANDMA!

Little Landon was born on May 18 - MY Birthday!!! What a special gift. At the shop, we've really been busy and between grandson and the store, I have been very deliquent - I apologize. I promise to do better and get back to keeping the blog updated.
5/5/10 Mack and I had dinner last night with son Tony and his wife, Leigh. They are expecting a little boy - Landon - any day now and we are SO excited. I figure this could be the last time we see them before the baby comes. She is so CUTE pregnant.

Speaking of moms-to-be, this weekend is MOTHER'S DAY. We have a great selection of gift ideas. I LOVE these new lighted forsythia branches!!! They make a great gift. Come in and check these out along with some of the new candles. You're sure to find something mom will love!

4/26/10 New Spring Scents from McCalls!!!
Just arrived: Laura's Lemon Loaf, Honeysuckle and Fresh Strawberry. YUMM!
Also, back in stock is Wilson's Shortbread and Fallbrook Farms (Orange Vanilla)
4/20/09 Did someone change the calendar when I wasn't looking? Has it REALLY be over TWO MONTHS since I blogged??? Well, I can tell you alot has been going on.
We spent about 10 days in Ohio on a buying trip for the shop. As you know by now, we found SO MANY amazing things that we could barely get our truck back to NC. It took us another two weeks to get everything worked into the store inventory and then it was time for our Spring Open House. That was a HUGE success and, immediately following on the heels of that was last weekend's television premier of "Rusty Bucket Kids" and the Cool Kidz Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center.
So, if I've been a little absent lately - its not because I've been goofing off. People are always coming in and talking about how they would love to 'own a store'. I want to say to them "do you value time at home, having lots of company and friends over, going out on weekends, and vacations??? " If so, then shop ownership is NOT for you. Although, I do LOVE all those things (and would KILL for a vacation!!) time for them is rare. It makes it all the more special when you can work any of them in. Right now, I'd settle for a day home just to catch up the laundry.
I think I'm gonna get a day this week. Debbie is going to cover for me for a day or two and I hope to finally get the garden ready. If I do, I will DEFINITELY post a photo! (Did I mention that Mack bought me a tiller??? Some girls want jewels - I want yard toys.) :)
2/11/10 We got in a new shipment of framed stitcheries this afternoon. Here's the saying that's on my favorite one:
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain."
That is one I need to remember. I am always worrying about pending storms, and the 'what- if's' in life. Mack on the other hand is all about dancing in the rain. He's always up for a challenge and says he actually feels his strongest when he has a battle to fight. God bless him. He's so good for me and is always reminding me to 'dance in the rain' by being thankful each day for whatever we're given. Maybe I need one of these stitcheries for my home as a reminder.....but then again, I have Mack to do that. How lucky can one person be? Thanks Mackie - Happy Valentines Day.
2/8/10 We are currently featuring a new local craftperson at The Rusty Bucket. Bill Crofton has been a woodworker from a very early age. He made his first candle lantern in 1984 for his wife, patterning it after a 100 year old antique and has been making them ever since. Bill and his lanterns were featured in the September 2002 issue of "Country Home" magazine and his lantern plays a prominate role in the pilot of "Rusty Bucket Kids Club" tv show. Check out some of the handcrafted products that he's done - the detail on some of these is incredible!

2/5/10 What's up with all this winter weather? We had our snow last week, that was our winter and now I'm ready for SPRING. It's been pouring rain here all day and the temp is right at 34. Thank goodness, its not any colder or we would be having all the 2'+ of snow that's hitting the northeast. I guess I'm just not a winter person.
A lady was in the shop today and she kept on and on about how ridiculous we are here in the south about not having school when there is snow on the ground. She moved here last year to retire from Pennsylvania. Obviously, she hasn't been on the side roads of Wake County to see how slick they still were - even yesterday. (Or our back alley, where Mack fell royally on some black ice and busted his "bee-hind" (and elbow and shoulder)!!) :)
As much as we don't want the kids missing school, the last place we want them is in a bus on an icy part of the road. I tried to explain to her that we had a snow last year but prior to that it had been about 3 years since the last measurable one and it's not worth the investment in the equipment that rarely gets used. (Just a side note: I heard on the news this week that - with the exception of Texas - NC has the MOST state roads of any of the other states .)
One of the first things you have to learn when you move to the south is to learn to RELAX and ENJOY the time we spend at home when it snows. It doesn't happen often and you're supposed to stay home with your family and appreciate it. (Don't mess it up for us - we have a good thing going here!!!)
Now that I appreciated it all last weekend, I'm ready for some good ole warm spring-like days...
1/31/10 WE GOT SNOW!!
Friday evening about 6 PM, it started snowing out of Twin Gables. We got about 5" of powder and then the sleet started and continued most of the night. Fortunately, no freezing rain to bring down trees or power lines. In spite of missing the weekend at the shop, it was nice to have some down time. I did get the "Gathering Room" painted (after several years of being indecisive about what to do about it) but also enjoyed the couch time and watching the birds outside the kitchen window.
In the country where we are, there aren't many others around that feed the birds so our house become the buffet line for most of them. We now have TEN PAIR of cardinals that stay in and around our yard - plus the usual wrens, titmouses, bluejays, chickadees, etc.
I'm not sure how well you can tell from this photo, but Mack caught seven of the male cardinals at the feeder at one time. The problem with getting a good photo is that they move SO FAST!

1/26/10 Several people have asked about the recipe for the slaw I had this weekend for CJ's party. It's an Asian Coleslaw that doesn't use mayonaise so it keeps well - and actually gets better the next day. I was given this recipe by a former co-worker's wife out of Chicago many years ago and it has become a family favorite. Hope you try it and enjoy:
Asian Coleslaw
1 package slaw/cabbage mix 1 bunch green onions, chopped 1 pack beef flavored Raman noodles (set aside flavoring packet and crush noodles) 1 cup sesame seed nuts 1/2 cup slivered almonds
Layer all of the above in a bowl. Mix together:
1/2 cup vegetable oil 1/3 cup sugar 1/3 cup vinegar flavoring from Raman noodles
Either mix in a blender or put in a container with a tight fitting lid and shake very well. Pour over cabbage mixture and chill for at least 8 hours.
1/25/10 I'm tired today. We had a great weekend. We had a celebration dinner party last night for my youngest son that graduated from NC State in December with an engineering degree. Best part of the story: he has a job starting in February!!
Last night, we had him and his room-mates, my other son and his wife, some of their mutual friends and "adult couples" (meaning 'old like me') that have been friends throughout their lives. It was great to get them all together for the evening.
However, for Mack and I - having 'company' means we have to clean the house. How can two people that spend the majority of their time at a store, four cats and a dog make such a mess (I think the animals have something to do with it)?? We are always amazed at just how much TRASH he and I can accumulate. I try to be conscious of what I throw away and recyle but I'm still astonished at the number of trash bags we go thru.
Anyway, that being said - we spent the weekend getting things put away, cooking and preparing for the dinner. We decided that we need to do this about once a month in order to keep things orderly - and I LOVE having guests over to Twin Gables. Maybe that should have been our New Years Resolution: have a party once a month in order to keep the house clean.....
1/23/10 We acquired a treasure today. Earlier this week, a gentleman came in the store and in talking with him we found out that he was with an old african-american country church in a small community outside of Sanford. His church was getting a new piano and they had an old upright that was dated 1905 that they were going 'to take to the dump if no one wanted it'. Of course, you know me - I gasped "you can't take something like that to the dump!" So fast forward to Saturday morning, and a trailer shows up at our house along with three cars filled with ten very large strong men. It took every one of them to move this extremely heavy, large upright piano off their truck and into our storage building. So, yes - its a little on the worn side.....but its 105 years old!!!! Can you imagine the stories this piano could tell about life in this community over the past hundred years? So, with a little time and a small amount of effort - one day we may get it restored and.....well, I don't know what exactly we'll do with it. But I couldn't let it go to the dump - some things are too important to just throw away.

1/21/10 Cute Story: Sharon came in yesterday with her two grand-daughters. The last time the girls were in the store was right before Christmas to see Santa and Reagan had a great time visiting with him but 4 year old Raleigh was terrified and left crying. So coming back to the store, Reagan ran in and Raleigh hung by the door until she was sure that Santa was not here. Shortly after they got in, Mack came around the corner and the look on Raleigh's face was pure terror until we said "it's not Santa - it's Mack". Then she ran over to him and gave him a hug and all was well.
Sharon called as they were on the way home and said the girls had figured it all out: Mack was REALLY Santa and he was hiding at The Rusty Bucket. Reagan said she figured it out by his laugh and the 'twinkle in his eye'. Raleigh was so cute - she told her grandma "I hugged him and I didn't even cry!!" So, now you know the truth -- Santa is hiding at The Rusty Bucket.
1/19/10 I promised you a couple more photos from Walt and Lynn's beautiful home. This is the other side of their remodeled basement. It's all furnished with beautiful primitive antiques from the time they lived in New England. Once we get the "Country Style" section of our website complete, you'll be able to see lots more of this wonderful home.

Walt said when he was small he always wanted a bear. Now that he's grown, he has a collection of antique bears - a few of which are quite at home in a beautiful old cart.

This large room is packed full of beautiful one of a kind antiques.
1/15/10 Customers, Walter and Lynn, were once New England antique dealers and when they moved to NC bought a traditional house. One of the first things Lynn did was have the marble fireplace taken out and rebuilt with old bricks. Their basement was a big open unfinished space. Having a great eye for what was possible, they turned this big open space into a Williamsburg style Tavern Room. Covering the walls with wood paneling, putting in a fireplace and a cage bar they worked miracles. Here are a few shots of one of the basement rooms. Others will follow next week:

1/14/10 I promised you more photos to give you a sneek peek of homes we plan on featuring in the new "COUNTRY STYLE" section. I know you are going to love Ray and Barbara's house when you see the rest of it. Just check out these cozy corners of their kitchen and bathroom. Their log home was recently featured in the 2009 holiday issue of "Country Sampler" magazine.

Check back tomorrow for another house.
1/12/10 We've had a link on our website for a year or so now called "Country Style" that has set empty. We knew what we wanted on there but pulling all the information together and getting the inspiration to get started has taken some time. This week, out of the blue, Mack got major motivated. He pulled out all his research and it fills a 5" binder (plus 14 books and countless website references). This section is finally going to be happening (either that or he's writing a reference book).
Expect to see articles about decorating and what you all like most - PHOTOS!!! Over the past couple years, we've visited six customer homes and taken pictures of how each decorate and have some great shots to share with you. Several of these we've gone back for multiple seasonal photo shoots.
Over the holidays, we went to Deborah's home. She lives in a house built around 1900 and has filled it with great 'finds' and a unique decorating style. I love how she takes items that many people would overlook (like an old screen door) and uses it on her wall for a great accent. And just wait until you see her extensive santa and bear collection!!!

I think you're going to love this section when it finally comes out. Mack is meeting with the webmaster this week to get things going and you should be hearing from me soon that it is ready for your inspection.
This section will be on-going as articles and photos will constantly be added. To give you a feel for some of the photos you'll be seeing, I'll be adding more here on the blog this week. There are some great houses that I know you will LOVE.
On that note - if you know of a home that you'd like for us to see and photograph, please let us know. Don't let that intimidate you -- its not about a whole house theme and everything does not have to be perfect. Its about what you are proud of in your country decor or an area that people always comment on. We'd love to come visit!!!!
1/8/10 OK, I hate cold weather - for some reason it's just hard for me to warm up once I get cold. Mack, on the other hand, loves it - but even he has complained a bit this week about how cold it is. I have a friend in Iowa that laughed at me the other day on Facebook when I was complaining about windchills in the teens. Its been sub-zero there with -30 degree wind chills. But, we're in North Carolina. It's not supposed to be this cold in the south!!!
So, we've had a fire going every day this week at the store. A pot of hot coffee is on and I've even had a pot or two of soup simmering on the stove. "The Bucket" is a warm and cozy place right now so come on down and spend some time with us.
New items have been coming in about every day this week. Valentines items should be starting to come in next week. We've got some great new lighting - and a SALE going on now thru January 14 on lighting - 20 - 60% off. If you have a dark corner now in your home after taking down the Christmas tree, its a perfect time to pick up a new lamp to brighten it up.
12/31/09 CHRISTMAS AT TWIN GABLES
Well, we got thru the holidays. What a hectic time of year it was. It was nice to have a few days downtime over New Years and finally find time to post some pictures. We hope you and your's had a wonderful holiday!!!

This 'big box' in the hallway was a secret gift for my son and his wife..... (Mack (Santa) had a great time making a box and wrapping it)

Mack's dad painted the canvas of our house. I LOVE it!!
Santa came to see ME Christmas morning and left all these great treasures. All are antiques except for the wooden cart (which Mack had shipped from South Dakota)
I'm all ready for a ride!!!
 CJ, Leigh and Tony
The secret gift!!! Yep, we're going to be grandparents next summer and could not be happier.
12/25/09 Some of the cute kids that came in to see Santa this year:

12/21/09 Oh My Goodness!!! I can't believe it's been over a month since I've been on here. I can not tell you how BUSY we've been. So much has been going on and happening here in our lives. There's the usual holiday events like Thanksgiving, Christmas on Salem Street, Raleigh and Apex Christmas Parades, Apex Historical Society Holiday Home Tours and annual family reunion with my mom's family outside of Charlotte. Then, on top of that we had two major events - my oldest son Tony got married Thanksgiving weekend and my youngest son, CJ, just graduated this past weekend from NC State. He's so lucky - he has a job waiting for him after the first of the year. We have all been so blessed and are so grateful.
Here's the happy couple on their wedding day:
grateful.

And here is the proud graduate and his equally proud mom!

11/14/09 THANKS to all of you that came out for our Holiday Open House last weekend. It was one of the best we've had in a long time and I thank you for your continued loyalty. I wanted to share some of the photos Mack took right before we opened. We had so many handmade items this year and many things sold out the first night. However, we still have LOTS of great items left - some are being reordered: candy-stripe battery operated tapers, holiday wax candle sleeves, holiday hangers for black arrows. Be on the lookout and I will post as they come in. In the meantime, enjoy the photos:
You can't tell by the photo, but snow was falling in the window behind santa's suit.

These are the new locally made food products we premiered at our Holiday Open House.
 A 'Raggedy Ann' tree

10/17/09 WHERE does the time go??? I just saw that I haven't been on here in over a week. We've just got way too much going on....did I mention that my son is engaged and getting married Thanksgiving weekend? There was an engagement party for them last night in the gardens at the Harwood House - a beautiful 200 years old house in downtown Raleigh. It was absolutely breath-taking. They had dozens of candles hanging from magnolia trees and white twinkle lights and bowls overflowing with beautiful coral roses on the tables. I am so blessed that Tony is marrying such a sweet girl and happy to see them together.
10/6/09 You've got to check out the November issue of COUNTRY SAMPLER magazine. You'll see the home of some friends and very good customers of ours that I know you will love. Actually, you may have seen it already - if you've looked at the video's on our website and seen "Log Cabin Christmas" you will have seen Ray and Barbara's beautifully decorated log cabin. This home is featured this month in the magazine. Here's a photo of the cover and the first page of the article. You'll love it! (and if you want to see more rooms than what's in the article, look for the link on our website for lots more photos!!!)

10/5/09 JUST IN - Judy Condon's latest book.
In 144 pages, over 300 color photographs capture the homes of many collectors including that of a collector in Ohio who has one of the finest Shaker collections ever photographed.

10/04/09 We went out to Common Grounds coffee shop last night to hear GW Pearce and "The Rusty Bucket Band". I have to tell you that I was blown away. GW is a very talented country music artist that is in the process of recording his own CD in addition to doing the music for RBKC. This is not "kids songs" but great music that so many people that heard this weekend fell in love with. This is going to be a great TV show that they whole family will love and, believe me, the music is a blast! You'll be hearing more soon.
10/01/09 GW Pierce will be performing the original music for Rusty Bucket Kids Club TV Show LIVE this Saturday in downtown Apex. at 3:45 PM until 4:15 PM in front of the Train Depot and then from 7 until 9 PM at Common Grounds Coffeehouse. Some of the stars from the show will be on hand - come on down and get a glimpse of what's coming!!!!!
8/29/09 As I realized in the post from yesterday, I had neglected to post photos of our new old doors. We got these from a friend of my mom's in Kannapolis (near Charlotte). They came out of an old farmhouse that was built in the 1800s. These door each weigh about 50 pounds - they are over 8' tall and we absolutely love them. I love the red color too - I'm thinking when we actually get them up, we may have to paint the shutters the same color red.....and maybe the inside trim.....and maybe the brick on the parlor fireplace.....(see how things snowball!!!)

8/28/09 Mack and I just enjoyed a great weekend OFF. It was wonderful and relaxing. We ended up going to the fleamarket at the NC State Fairgrounds for their closing weekend prior to the State Fair and we found TREASURES! It's funny how we both love old things that have a story to them. We found an old corn sheller from the late 1800s that was in great shape. The same guy also had a very primitive stool with pegged legs - so we got both of those. We also popped in to visit Blondie in her booth and found what she said was an old sugar cane cutter. We loved the red color since it's the same shade of red as the 100 year old plus doors we found to put on our house (Oh my - I just realized I never showed you a picture of those!!! - I'll do that in a day or two!). I also stumbled on a very old basket that I loved to go with the 50+ I already have (but who's counting???). Check out the photos of our front porch decorated with our new finds!
This is the corn sheller. Some of the original writing is visible on one side.
I love the color of this sugar cane cutter.
An old prim rabbit (I know 'wrong season' but she likes getting out of the house) sits inside my new old basket along side the old bench we picked up.
Just to make it clear that the witch lives down the road - NOT in Twin Gables!!!! :)
8/15/09 I'm still trying to catch up after our big Fall Open House weekend! We were so busy getting ready for it - long days into nights unpacking boxes, rearranging and decorating. Mack and I had to laugh at ourselves - we were both so sore that we could hardly move for a day or two!
Then a great crowd of some of our favorite "Bucket Heads" were waiting in line when we opened the door at 5:00 PM Friday evening. What a great evening we had! There were people in the store until almost 9:30 that night. Saturday and Sunday were both busy days also. If you weren't able to make it, there are still some great fall items remaining (after all, Fall doesn't officially get here until a week from today!!) However, we don't reorder seasonal items, so when it's gone - it won't be back until next year (and as I told several people this weekend that were looking for something I had last year - I usually don't do the same thing two years in a row.)

(More Fall Photos to Come!!!)
Also, there is building excitement around THE RUSTY BUCKET KIDS CLUB tv show that will be filmed in our shop. A crew was at the store first thing this morning getting footage to add to the music video they have produced. This is going to be so much fun!!!!
Come see us! Pam
8/10/09 THE SECRET IS OUT!!! In today's Apex paper (front page), there is a large article about your favorite country store....beginning is October, The Rusty Bucket will be the location for filming a new kids TV show called....."The Rusty Bucket Kids Club"!!!! It will be based on two kids in a small town that find a way to travel back in time to visit with historical figures that are still in their youth. It will be a fun story and allow kids to get a history lesson too!!! If you're in town, be sure to pick up an Apex paper - they got the exclusive on the first press release.
I'll try to get it scanned and posted or emailed out soon.....right now, I have to get back to getting ready for open house tomorrow night!!! You are coming to see us this weekend, aren't you????
8/9/09 The store it totally torn apart and we are starting to unbox some amazing fall items. It's a total mess right now but it's going to look so good (if we can live thru the redo - I'm already beat and still have two long days of hard labor in front of me to get this done!!). YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT THOUGH!!!!
8/28/09 I'M STUNNED......I don't usually do this but I can't let this one go by. I have the news on in the store and CNN just released a tape from a Baptist Preacher stating, in a sermon from the pulpit, in no uncertain terms that our president needs to be assassinated. THIS IS A PREACHER!!! I understand that people have different opinions and ideals but to hear this coming from someone that is supposed to be a man of God (and so obviously not) is one of the worst things I've heard in a very long time and deeply disturbing. Why can't we just get along??
8/24/09 MY NEW CABINET
I have a new, very cool, OLD cabinet. It's been sitting out in our 'barn' for a few months now because it was so big, Mack and I didn't think we could get it up the steps and into the house by ourselves. Living in an old house, there is never enough cabinets or closet space and I really needed this cabinet for storage. So, Saturday evening, we got the hand cart and lugged it into the house.
It's hard to tell from the photo, but it's well over 8' tall and almost 5' across. Our ceiling in most of the house are 10' and I had a hard time finding something small enough to fit on the top once we got it in place. But, oh I love it!!! I was able to clean out the laundry area shelves and another cabinet and STILL have space available inside for more STUFF!! Yipee!

8/22/09 Want a sneak peek at something that will part of our Fall Open House? They're not fall related but we're saving them for the "big day" - if you like primitive annies, you'll LOVE these...they are 3-4' tall and all locally made. How can you not SMILE when you see them???

8/18/09 You know you're in trouble when the Fed-Ex guy shows up and says that he's had to rent a truck just for our delivery! We got a HUGE shipment in today - mostly fall and, believe it or not - Christmas. Boxes are stacked literally to the ceiling in the backroom and I have a LOT of work waiting on me!!!

I can't wait for you to see what I've found!! I was poking around this weekend at a few places and stumbled across a set of six small OLD bow-back children's chairs. They are the perfect place for our new large Annies to sit!! If you have at least one doll in your home and she doesn't have her own special chair, you'll really want to look at these - they're pretty special (and there are only six!) See how cute they are?

NEWS FROM DOWNTOWN: We're getting a couple new neighbors. The space next to us that the real estate office used to be in will soon be occupied by 'All Booked Up' - used book store. If you haven't seen this space already downtown, its a very cute bookstore and we are excited about their expanding and moving next door to us. Also, we are hearing rumors that the space where Piggyback Market was has been leased out to a large-size specialty women's clothing store. This will be a great complement to Nativa which will be right next door. Did you see the review in the N&O about Anna's Pizzeria? Very good write up and they have been PACKED ever since. Yury, the owner, tells me he is working on opening the upstairs which will give him about 45 additional (and quieter) seating. Good things continue to be happening in Apex. Come see us!
8/17/09 Our Rusty Bucket brand of NC food products are in!! We're so excited to finally be getting these. I can't wait for you to see our kitchen area - now known as the "Carolina Country Cupboard" and try some of the new products we've added. There are jams, jellies, apple and sweet potato butter, pickles and non-alcoholic muscadine wine. These also make great last minute gifts to pick up next time you're in the shop.

8/16/09 A wedding is in the works! I had the pleasure this weekend to do two things: go with my son, his fiance and her mother to visit St. Mary's Chapel (future wedding site) and then go to the Southern Bridal show with them. Man!! Who knew???? It can be pretty overwhelming to see all the options available for the bridal couple -makes me want to reconsider my choice of business.........nah, maybe not.
The Chapel was built in 1856.
The happy couple The groom and his very happy mom
8/11/09 I LOVE the smells of Fall.....and it smells heavenly in here right now. Two boxes of fall potpourri, p'kin pods and wax dipped items are in and have the backroom smelling so GOOD. They're being stored away until our FALL OPEN HOUSE next month - you better have it on your calendar! I've got some really great one-of-a-kind handmades and when they're gone - there's no reordering!!!
Fall Harvest at The Rusty Bucket Friday evening, September 11 5 PM - 9 PM Saturday, September 11 10 AM - 6 PM Sunday, September 12 12 NOON - 3 PM
8/10/09 Today is Mack's Birthday!!! Happy Birthday Sunshine!!
What a fun weekend we had - my oldest son Tony "popped the question" Friday evening to his wonderful girlfriend, Leigh. He gave her an absolutely gorgeous ring and we are all so excited. They are so sweet together and so in love. It's going to be a fun year with a wedding in the works.

8/7/09 I'm in love with my newest crafter, Elaine. She showed up AGAIN this morning with two crates full of the most adorable prim black dolls and other handmade items.
Once again - there are also amazing Fall items that you're going to have to WAIT till Open House to see - and yes, it's killing me not to put them out!!! But, these below are so cute and, like her other items, I'm sure won't last. Take a look at these (they are even better in person!!!)
I personally want BOTH of these girls (the picture does NOT do them justice)

8/2/09 We have a new line of barbecue sauces (locally made, of course). Just got this from a customer:
We tried the Fryar's original sweet barbeque sauce from The Rusty Bucket last night and it was terrific! Put it on some pork strips hot off the grill and it was really good. It has a nice, creamy consistency and the sweet taste made it stand out from run-of-the-mill BBQ sauce.
Glad you recommended it and made it available in your store! -- John P
7/31/09 I'm up to my ears in new stuff!!! Mack got photos of the new handmade items that Elaine and Mary Ann brought in the morning. I'm posting just a few to give you an idea of what's here. I've got to get them tagged and out (one sold before I could get her checked in) PLUS there are boxes from UPS that I need to get to. I'm trying to get as much out as I can for the weekend.
We had to take this little girl out of th customer's hand to get a picture of her before she got away!

It's hard to tell but this little girl is BIG - she's wearing a child's dress.
Yes, I know it's hard to see it all - but there are so many wonderful new one-of-a-kind handmade items that those two talented women brought in. Last week, almost everything they brought in sold over the weekend. We've got another big Anniversary Celebration tomorrow - don't get left out!
Still in boxes in the back are candle rings, towels, stitcheries, penny mats, wool hooked rugs....got to go unpack it and see what else I can find!!!
Come see us tomorrow!!!! Pam
A few photos from this weekend in the shop....

7/27/09 What a great Anniversary weekend we had here at The Rusty Bucket. It was the best overall weekend we've had in a couple years. Thanks to all of you that continue to come out and support us.

New items are continuing to come up with increasing frequency. Fall items are also coming in and we are storing them away for our big Fall Open House on September 11 & 12. Be sure to mark your calendar now. There will be lots of one-of-a-kind handmade items that disappear fast so you'll want to be here when the doors open at 5:00 PM Friday evening.
In the meantime, we are now fully stocked with NC wines and food products - great gift for visiting family and friends or when you need a quick hostess gift. Don't forget, Chef William from Duplin Winery will be here next Saturday doing a food tasting in our kitchen. He has some new food products that we already have in stock that he will be cooking with.
See you soon!
Pam
7/23/09 I LOVE to find treasures - especially handmade primitive ones. Yesterday, two wonderful women walked into the shop with the arms loaded (crates actually) of wonderful hand made items. One, Mary Anne, I've known and bought from personally for years. She has a wonderful ability to find old interesting pieces and add her special handpainted touch.
The other was her friend, Elaine. I got so excited about all she brought with her. (You Raggedy Ann collectors are going to be happy.) I'm going to show you part of it but the rest you're going to have to WAIT TO SEE because it's all FALL (and our Open House is September 11 & 12 so it won't go out until then!!!)
Here are a few shots of Mary Anne's painted pieces:

On the left is an old smudge pot used to light warning fires roadside - the other is an old oil can.
Aren't these girls cute?? And they are so well behaved!!!

And then, there's a special story about this little doll. She was made by 6-year old Alice - the youngest daughter of one of our favorite crafters - Jennifer. They start early in her family as Friday evenings are family craft night. Ten year old Natalie has actually made and sold several of her dolls at our store and seven year old Gordon has a pig he made in the shop now. This is the first doll Alice has ever made and she wanted to continue the family tradition and "sell it at The Rusty Bucket". Go to our "Home Page" and check out more about Jennifer as she is our new "Featured Artisan".

7/20/09 I made the best thing this weekend. We have so many tomatoes and fresh herbs from the garden and, even though I'll never get tired of fresh tomato sandwiches, I'm always looking for a new way to enjoy them. THIS was even better than I anticipated. Take a look at this Tomato Tart:

Oh my goodness, it is SO GOOD!!! You have to try it and let me know what you think.
Fresh Tomato Tart
1/2 (15 oz) package refrigerated pie crust 2 cups shredded mozzerella cheese 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (divided) 3 medium ripe tomatoes (peeled and cut into 1/2" slices) 1-1/2 tablespoon olive oil 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper
Fit piecrust into a 10" tart pan according to package directions. (If you don't have a tart pan, you can do it in a pie plate.) Generously prick bottom and sides of pan with a fork. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
Sprinkle cheese evenly into pie shell and top with 2 tablespoons basil. Arrange tomato slices on top and brush with oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place on baking sheet and put on lower rack of oven.
Bake at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Remove from oven; sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon basil. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. (8 servings)
7/14/09 I have a new local dollmaker that brought in the most adorable handcrafted prairie doll today. The dolls name is "Donna Mae" and there is so much detail to her. It's hard to see the face up close in the photo but she's precious. The tatting on the sleeves and crochet are handmade from the doll makers mother and grandmother and the buttons are from the late 1880s. If you're a prim doll lover, you are going to want to fight me for "Donna Mae" - she's a hard one not to add to my personal collection.

A close-up of "Donna Mae"

A peek "up her frock" at her striped stocking and pantiloons - and a look at the back of her hair.
7/11/09 I had a rude awakening last night. I realized that I'm actually a year OLDER than I thought I was. How sad is that?? I just had a birthday back in May but, I guess, I either just forgot about it (oh no - is that a sign that I'm REALLY getting old???) or the fact that the anniversary of my birth actually adds another year to the total somehow skipped my mind (oh no - its another sign for sure!!!) - either way, I was totally shocked to realize I had aged just in that instance in remembering. I've never been one to worry about the "Big 4-O" or the "Big 5-O" but somehow, suddenly realizing that you're a year older than you thought you were is a bit weird and disturbing at the same time. (OK, funny too!!)
7/8/09 Yummy Fresh Veggies....
The gardens are overflowing with their seasonal goodies and I'm always looking for a new way to have fresh tomatoes (even though I could easily enjoy a sloppy fresh-from-the-garden tomato sandwich every day of my life). One of our new family favorites is Okra Salad. Not only is it great as part of a meal but a lot of nights when we get home from work, it makes a nice meal just by itself.
Okra Salad
1-2 tomatoes - chopped 1/2 green pepper - chopped 1 bunch green onions - chopped 6 slices bacon - fried and chopped
Combine above in large bowl and set aside.
1 'family size' bag of breaded okra
Fry okra as directed on package. When brown, toss with chopped vegetables.
While okra is frying, combine 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup sugar and warm until sugar dissolves.
Drizzle over vegetables, stirring well. Serve immediately.
YUMMY!!!
7/6/09 The boxes are unpacked and there is SO MUCH new stuff in the store. I can't post all the pictures here but I've got a few to give you an idea of what I've been busy unpacking. There are new signs, frames, 3' tall willow trees, dolls, decorative milk bottles plus so many new locally handmade items. Pop over to "What's New" (from the home page) and check them out.

4th of July in Apex

Congratulations to the three winners of a $50 Gift Certificate!
Tandra Burson Freida Hackney Sarah McLaurin

3/18/09 It's pouring rain and that always puts me in the mood to cook. Weird, how that happens. I'm thinking "Sunday Morning Breakfast on the Porch".
I love it when I have a recipe that I can make the night before and just pop in the oven in the morning while the coffee is brewing. This is one of my favorites but it makes too much for just Mack and me. Want to come join us?
Baked French Toast Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread (13 to 16 ounces)
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups half-and-half
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Dash salt
- Praline Topping, recipe follows
- Maple syrup
Directions
Slice French bread into 20 slices, 1-inch each. (Use any extra bread for garlic toast or bread crumbs). Arrange slices in a generously buttered 9 by 13-inch flat baking dish in 2 rows, overlapping the slices. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, half-and-half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and beat with a rotary beater or whisk until blended but not too bubbly. Pour mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly with the milk-egg mixture. Spoon some of the mixture in between the slices. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
The next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Spread Praline Topping evenly over the bread and bake for 40 minutes, until puffed and lightly golden. Serve with maple syrup.
Praline Topping:
- 1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and blend well. Makes enough for Baked French Toast Casserole.

JUST IN!
I'm unpacking as I speak, so, no photos yet.
- New line of lightly scented battery operated tapers. These are nice and grubby - and, unlike the ones I had before the holidays, come WITH the batteries included for the same price.
- Embroidered Spring Towels
- Canvas artwork
- Vickie just brought in an armload of primitive bunnies that, I'm sure, won't be here long.
- McCalls Cottage Cups - I picked the best selling McCalls scents and now have the large votives. These are about twice the size of a standard votive and fit in a cute clear glass "flower pot".
- Wood Spindle Table Lamps
- "Simplicity Journals" - beautiful covers and the inside ask 'leading questions' to make it easy for you to share your thoughts
- new small accent wall shelves and other pieces from our local woodworker
- Easter and Mother's Day cards are in
Everyone that's been in this week to check out the store has loved it - be sure to come visit and see for yourself!
Pam
3/18/09 "WHAT'S NEW" you ask?
A few things..... I started getting boxes in today and have been busy all day unpacking. More is scheduled for tomorrow. Mack took photos and we started putting some items on "What's New" - you'll find the link on our Home Page.
Following are a few shots of the store so far:

Come in soon and check it all out.
Pam
3/17/09 Have you ever been too tired to sleep???
What a weekend. Thank you so much for coming out to our Spring Cleaning sale this past weekend. We really cleaned a lot of inventory out of the store. Then we started with the actual cleaning and painting....
Ever wonder what Salem Street looks like in the wee hours of the morning? That's my lonely car sitting in the rain at 5:45 AM!

We were supposed to start painting at 9 AM, but "someone" couldn't sleep and decided to come in early and get started. Sharon and her husband Mark and Christina and Joe came in to help me and Mack with all the work that needed to be done.
Here is the 'before'.....

During....

And AFTER!

I just love the 'vintage Americana' corner in the front window. This is our new wool/pattern section.
I'll be posting photos later of the rest of the store but it looks totally different.
The good thing about the sale is that a lot of old inventory went out of here and lots of new items are on the way - many this week. Lots more primitives mixed in with new spring items. Be sure to check back in soon -
Thanks again for turning out for the sale! You and your business are important to keeping us here providing great American Country home decor!
Pam

3/4/09 Don't you love living some where that you can have snow one weekend and the next weekend it's going to be in the mid-70s? Just thinking about it gives me a case of Spring Fever! I hope this is our last dose of winter - I'm NOT a cold weather person but I do love a good snow. I wanted to share of few glimpses of our winter wonderland with you.

Leroy thought the birds wouldn't notice him . I love the old sheds out back anytime of year.

Count them - 6 male cardinals. Femals were there too but they don't stand out as much.
Good-bye Winter - I'm ready for some warm weather now!

The Economic-Stimulus Plan Starts at Home….
"Some thoughts and ramblings from the Shopkeeper."
Are you as tired as I am of all the negativity? You hear on the news….”Unemployment is at 7%” - well, what that means is that 93% of the populations is still working!!!
So many of us seem to be bombarded by the media and have chosen to stay at home and quit spending. While that is an understandable response – has anyone thought about the impact of that decision on the local community?
I posted the following on a previous email:
“For every $100 spent in a chain store (of any kind) only $13.00 stays in our community. When that same $100 is spent with a locally owned business (whether it’s a restaurant, gas station, cleaners, or your favorite shop in downtown Apex), $40.00 stays in the community.”
Economist point out that pay roll turns over five to eight times in a community. I reiterate this because businesses in downtown Apex are like many across this great land - working hard to make it. I don’t mind telling you that we’ve seen our challenges at The Rusty Bucket in the past 15 months along with other business owners on Salem Street, Apex and the Triangle area.
Buying has slowed down considerably and, while we have traffic in our shops, we have far more lookers than buyers. I am sure you have seen some businesses fold in these many months. With several in Downtown Apex feeling the bite of the economic slow down, more will be closing their doors. These shops may be your favorite and for all of us to stay alive and keep the doors open we need your confidence, your support and above all else - your purchases.
I had someone come in the other day and tell me how disappointed she was that her "very favorite shop in all the world" wasn't here anymore– that shop has been gone for two years and she had just realized it’s not here. All of their customers must have loved it as much as this lady did and only supported it every two years or it would still be here.
I say this because historic downtown Apex is a treasure so many of you love – just as you love The Rusty Bucket. Don’t forget that Main Street needs your support to stay in business for you.
We had a great sale this month with our “Sweetheart of a Deal” – unheard of prices on things you’ve all been asking for. Furniture and lighting up to 40 to 60% off - with little or no response from the public. It’s obvious that discounts are not the key to bring more confidence to the buying public. Other merchants from the street come in and tell me they aren’t sure how much longer they can hang on.
I know confidence has been shaken.... but, if recovery has a chance, it starts with each of us believing that "YES WE CAN” because "YES I CAN". With us working together we will find our confidence and start the economic recovery right here on Main Street Apex.
If you want to keep your favorite stores in Historic Downtown Salem Street viable and available, you need to encourage everyone you know to support them before they are just a memory.
2/10/09 Jennifer brought in the cutest hand-made bunnies - check them out. More handmades coming in before the weekend.

Date: 11-09-2008
2/2/09 I had to share this photo - it was so cute - even though it's a bit hard to see what's going on. This is one of our cats - Rusty. (We also have one named Bucket) Anyway, on one of our especially cold nights we caught Rusty sleeping next to this hall bench with his feet tucked under the bottom. The heat vent is under the bench so I guess he fell asleep 'warming his feet'.

1/26/09 There is this wonderful couple from Virginia that comes in to see me occasionally. Their son lives just outside of Charlotte and when they head down, they bring a truck load of one-of-a-kind handcrafted items. He stopped in to see me this weekend. I bought everthing I had room for and would have loved to have bought more! He had the neatest coat racks made of old boards - several, unfortunately, sold before I could get photos of them. A few made it thru the day so we were able to take pictures. Also, there is a great end table made from an old box and a coffee table made from a hand-painted old door. Pop on over to "What's New" and check them out!
1/22/09 Laura Kelly Licensing is now part of The Rusty Bucket.
For years, Laura Kelly products have been a part of historic downtown Apex - first as The Funky Monkey and then as Laura Kelly Licensing. Laura's Licensing business is growing so fast its all she can do to keep up - we are so excited for her. So many national companies are interested in licensing her artwork for their products. The national craft company - Plaid - is creating an entire line of craft products from her designs. They are even talking about having her on QVC and the Home Shopping Network. How exciting is that???
With all this going on, the retail side of her business has been harder for her to keep up. When word got out that she was going to close, NBC 17 came knocking on the door telling her that customers had been calling them expressing concern. That's when she came to us. (You can see the news story here)
http://wake.mync.com/site/Wake/news/story/24335/laura-kelly-designs-is-shutting-its-door-but-not-leaving-apex/
We are very proud to now be the area's only retail outlet for Laura Kelly Designs. They are a different look than our store but have turned out to be a perfect fit. We just got our first shipment of 'BABY BUCKET' items and they all mesh wonderfully with Laura's stationary and paper products. I can't wait for you to see them.
Me and Laura getting ready to start the move.
We cleared out the center of the store............ ......and brought in something new!
Sharon and Christina were busy helping rearrange. New banners were hung outside.
And the new look is starting to take shape
1/19/09 We Got SNOW!!!
And, oh is it pretty!! We haven't had a big snow in probably five years or more. Depth of the white fluffy stuff varied around us - but we got over 6". I have loved it - spending the whole day in my jammies. Not living in a subdivision anymore, when I feed the birds I'm the only one around doing it and SO MANY come by for their daily meal - especially when the weather is bad. I looked out one time and there were TEN MALE CARDINALS along with their mates, eight doves, five red winged blackbirds, a couple gold finches and tons of other little birds.
As you have to do on a day like this, I made a pot of soup, did some baking and curled up with a book - and of course, watched the inauguration events all day. How exciting this all is!! I feel so hopeful for our country.
Mack trooped around thru the snow and took (no lie) about 700 pictures!!! I picked a few to share with you - how do you choose when there are so many great ones??? These are just a couple of the wonderful views I have outside my farmhouse window.
Stay warm -
Pam

I sure am glad we don't have to trek thru the snow to use THIS!!!!

1/15/09 Brrrrr - it's not supposed to be this cold in the SOUTH!!
We haven't had a winter this cold in a long time - I guess we're due - but still doesn't make me feel any warmer. It's cozy here in the shop though. I have a fire going in the back and a crock pot of pinto beans cooking! :) Tonight is the Apex Historical Society's annual "Soup and Pie" supper. I figured rather than a pot of predictable soup - I'd make a big pot of beans with lots of fresh chopped onions, chow-chow (is that just a southern thing?), and hot pepper vinegar on the side. I sure hope someone is bringing cornbread! So it smells so warm and homey in here today.
Yesterday, Sharon and I had fun helping our friend Laura Kelly (Laura Kelly Designs and Licensing). Her designs have just been licensed by a craft company and she was looking for ideas to take to a show next week. We sat in the shop and made wool-applique ornaments, and stitched the afternoon away. What a fun unexpected way to spend the day.
Speaking of stiching - our crafters have been busy making valentines items. Sharon, Evette and Jennifer all brought in the cutest items this week.
Evette brought her items in these cute vintage suitcases!

Jennifer brought in the vintage pin cushions...
....and these cute Annies and a beautiful hand-stitched pillow.
We also got in some cute new wood accent items. From little signs that will sit on a shelf
to paper towel, tissue and remote holders!

New items continue to come in weekly - brave the cold and come in to visit. We'd love to spend some time together. Pam
1/5/09 Today is my mom's 84th birthday - Happy Birthday Mom!!
We've still got a few Christmas items left - and they're marked down to 60% off. They won't be around long - probably just until the end of this week. New items are coming in and we need to make room!!
A couple of my favorites are items that are new for us. One is a line of veggies - these are great on a kitchen hutch or counter. There are also really cute and reasonably priced cabbage and radish candles sure to add a touch of spring now that the holiday items are packed away.
Don't these look mouth-watering?
There are cabbages, artichokes, asparagus, rutegegas and radishes.
Any of these would look great or by themselves in a bowl on your kitchen counter.
 Cabbage and radish-bunch candle
You have GOT to see the 'cabbage-man' in the window. You can't look at him without smiling!
These little shoes just crack me up!!

We're also starting to get some really cute Valentines items in.

Our crafters are busy with new items for Valentines also. Check in often.
Pam
1/1/09 Happy New Year! I can't believe how fast the holidays have come and gone. We took a very much needed two days off yesterday and today to try to rest, get the house back in order and....rest again. So, how come we came into the store on New Years Day??? We needed to do some long over-due cleaning and organizing of our back room. Not exactly how you want to spend a day off, is it? When you own your own business, you really don't get day's off - there is ALWAYS something that has to be done. That's what makes it nice with Mack and I - guarantees we're always together.
Everyone is asking what I did with the pie safe. I spent most of New Year's Eve "playing". I decided to put it in the foyer right when you come in the front door. Here's how it turned out:

It's full of treasures - some brought by Santa and other's we've had before. I just love it!
Have a wonderful new year!
Pam
12/30/08 The Rusty Bucket and Downtown Apex on the Economy
NBC17 did a feature on the impact of the economy to small businesses - specifically those in historic downtown Apex. We all, like the rest of the country, are struggling to keep our dream alive - but I personally remain very optimistic. Thought I'd post the link to the story in case you didn't see it. Don't forget about the small busineses in your area - they are the backbone of the community.
http://wake.mync.com/site/Wake/news/story/23151/sales-decrease-in-apex-but-business-owners-are-optimistic/
12/26/08 Yes, Virginia - there IS a Santa Clause....
....and I'm lucky enough to live with him!!!
We had a great Christmas. After closing the store early on Christmas eve, we went home and had our own quiet Christmas. After so much hustle and bustle over the past two months (when you're in retail, Christmas starts a lot earlier than it does for everyone else), it was nice just to sit around and relax. We had a simple dinner and opened presents between ourselves.
Then, as it always mysteriously happens, when I awoke on Christmas morn, Santa had come. This year, I was overwhelmed when I looked under the Christmas tree. Santa had not only left me a 150 year old punched tin pie safe but he had filled it with wonderful primitive antiques.
The great thing about the pie safe is that we know the history on it. It was built by a cabinet maker for the Burns family of Chatham County, NC around 1853 and then passed to a Burns family daughter who married into the Clegg family. And now, it has ended up with us to cherish for many years.
I knew you'd want to see pictures so we took lots to share.
Opening presents is so much fun!
It's amazing what Santa can fit in his sleigh!
A glimpse at the contents within. The drying rack on the right is actually an unusual wall mounted one. On the floor is a feed store scale and old hang-crank corn-husker (Santa brought these also)
The punched tin is all original and in amazing shape to be 150 years old!
The cabinet is made from solid tongue-and-groove heart pine boards.
Inside there were yellow-ware bowls and crocks.....
...milk bottles and old tins - the peanut brittle can has never been opened (I think the candy is a bit past it's expiration date)
I grew up in a cotton mill town so I loved getting these also.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. After the one day off, we were back at it today with our after-Christmas event. Christmas items are 50% off and all other in-stock items in the store are 20% off. We had a good crowd when we opened this morning and are looking forward to seeing you soon also.
Pam
12/22/08 Santa and the Kids
We've had so much fun this year with Santa and the kids in the store. They have been such a delight to watch - there's nothing like seeing the magic of Christmas through a child's eyes. We've also had the sweetest letters left in the "Letters to Santa" mailbox in front of our store. Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your family's Christmas memories.

(the kids on the left came from Russia to see Santa!!)
Merry Christmas!
12/18/08 WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?
The holidays are getting here so fast!! Is it an "age thing" or has Christmas come upon us quicker than usual??? Being in retail, we start planning for the holidays in January so you'd THINK I'd be ready for them. It seems as if there is so much to do and never enough time. However, when you live with SANTA - all those things take on a new dimension and are so much more FUN!!
Mack and I had the pleasure of getting together with old friends last weekend - some we've known for over 20 years and just never have the time to all get together. Amazing how the years just melt away and it seems as if it were only yesterday that you saw each other.
Our home is decorated and ready - even if we're not. Several of you have asked to see photo's.

Here's a little peek inside the window....

Want to see more? Either click or copy and paste this link to Webshots and you can see the rest of our holiday decorations.

Hope you enjoy the visit.
12/13/08 We all love looking at photos of how people decorate, don't we?? Sharon's "All American" house shines with red, white and blue. Don't you love this "flag wall"?

Her "Americana" look flows thru in vignettes she has set up through out the house.

I LOVE the way she's used the little red wagon here!
Stay tuned - more are on the way later this week!
12/2/08 More Photos!! Many of you have been asking to see more of Sharon's house. This week, I'm going to take you inside to show you a few close-ups of some of her displays. Remember, these are photos we took early this past summer. I talked to her yesterday and she had been busy decorating for Christmas. I had one afternoon to start on my holiday decorating and still have a long way to go - hopefully, we'll be able to post holiday photos of both our home and Sharon's before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, enjoy this glimpse inside. We have two more segments coming - one with all of her Americana and another featuring her crafts and collectables.

I LOVE the way Sharon took all the samplers she stitched and put them inside an old window frame.

Sharon stitched the strawberries and tomato pincushions that are on the scale. Earlier this year, she taught the "tomato pincushion" class here in the store.
This is a closeup of one of the recipe cards - we do the classes for these at The Rusty Bucket.
These are part of a collection of black and white stitcheries.

This is actually a photo of Sharon's mother-in-law. Sharon made the heart "make-do" and the stitchery.
11/27/08 There is no better time than Thanksgiving to say "THANK YOU" for your continued friendship and support of The Rusty Bucket. May you have a wonderful day with your family and friends. Come see us soon. Pam
11/17/08 Sharon's House......Part 2
I promised to take you inside Sharon's house to see some photos of some of the rooms inside her house. Her home is decorated in Americana throughout - with lots of handmade items. These pictures will give you a feel for the rooms - next week, we'll do some close-ups of some of the individual areas.
 Sharon's "All American" Family Room

 A view from the kitchen
This is inside Sharon's kitchen. Don't you love how she has the pear gourd perched on a small chair?

A peek into the dining room from the front foyer.
You can see the Americana display reflected in the mirror.
The walls of this bedroom are light brown.

This is one of Sharon's 'work tables' and some of her stitching on the wall above.
Stay tuned - more to come next week! Pam
11/14/08 Sharon has one of her "Santa" classes in the shop this afternoon - they spent all afternoon in the back of the store creating their wool Santas. Sharon said of all the classes she's done this is the first time the majority of the class actually did RED Santas. They were all so proud of their work - don't they look great?

Congratulations to the winners of our drawing during our Christmas Open House!!
Sharon B. - Redwork Snowman Tree Skirt
Katherine J. - $25 Gift Certificate
Beth V. - $25 Gift Certificate
Cathy W. - $25 Gift Certificate
We had a great open house this year. If you weren't able to make it, we've got lots of photos to share with you.
"The Bucket" is all twinkly for the holidays.
The crowd started gathering early before we reopened at 5:00.
They were met with a store full of "Homespun Holidays"

Carl, Sharon and Evonne frequently drive up from Wilmington, NC
This sweet lady came up from Florida just for our Open House!
The store was full of shoppers for the Open House. They were enjoying a video of Barbara and Ray's beautiful log cabin decorated for the holidays.
The excitement of the evening was almost too much for Sharon! :)
Evening at The Rusty Bucket and.....
.....historic downtown Apex are a special event.

11/9/08 A Glimpse Back at Early Summer at Sharon's Home.
I know it's fall, but we came across some early summer photos Mack took at Sharon's house. Her ALL AMERICAN home is filled with wonderful folk art and stitcheries - most of her own doing. We have so many pictures, I'm going to divide it up into several segments. This first one just gives you a glimpse of some of the sweet little corners around the outside of her home. Next week, we'll take you inside:
You can tell by the front porch that Sharon's home is red, white and blue beautiful!

Wouldn't you just love to snuggle up here with a book?

I love the little vignettes she creates around her yard.

Stay tuned - later this week, we'll have follow up to our Christmas Open House and then Part 2 of photos from Sharon's!
Have a great week!

10/25/08 Witch's Night Out
Last night was our first Witch's Night Out and we all had so much fun! We had a fog machine, creepy music and creepy food. Our "Spooktacular" savings for the evening was the kickoff of ALL FALL being reduced to 40%. Additionally, anyone that came in costume received 25% off anything else in the store.

The store was all decked out with spider webs and fog.

You've heard of the "witches of Eastwick" - here are the "witches of North Salem"

Yes, the "Headless Doorman" was REAL! (He scared quite a few kids that thought he wasn't!!)

Mack and I were both feeling a little 'green'...
 Aren't they a cute couple?

Most people didn't recognize Sharon at all with her long black and gray tresses!

Everyone got in on the fun! (Some didn't want to be recognized! Do you know anyone here??)
Natalie (far left) and Elora (far right) served as our hostesses. (The vampire won our "best overall costume" prize)

Jana won our "Best Witch" prize.

Some costumes were elaborate.....
...and some were simple. But they all had fun!

Even Maggie was dressed for the occasion. "Our little Pun'kin"
Becky won one of the door prizes.

Fun Foods..

We had such a good time we're going to do it again next year. Make sure you mark your calendar now for the Friday before Halloween!

Fall at the Farmhouse
Mack and I both love fall - with the change of weather and the warm colors. We've had fun decorating Twin Gables for the season. We thought we'd invite you in for a quick tour.

The farm wagon is out front and dressed up for fall.

You can stop and 'sit a spell' on the front porch.

Come on into our parlor.

We found this hutch in PA - its made entirely of reclaimed wood. Notice the old windows used as doors.
The photo over the mantle is my great-great grandmother, Sarah. The mums to the left are in an old cotton-gin.

It's an old house but very open. You can tell we love primitives.
 This is our center hallway.
 Our Keeping Room.
This mantle is in our Gathering room and is way to formal for us - but it came with the house. This room still needs a lot of work but as you can tell, we've moved right in.

We love our screened porch almost as much as the big front porch.
.
This was the original smoke house for our property.
I hope you enjoyed the photos. If you like, you can see more at:

10/10/08 Many of you know, Mack's youngest daughter got married last weekend. Sunday morning after the wedding we had his family to the farmhouse for breakfast. I wanted to share a few of the photos of the weekend with you.

Proud daddy and the bride (Mack's not as W-I-D-E as the photo makes him look) :)

Mack, his mom, bride and groom Sweet "Daddy/Daughter" dance (they danced to Heartland's "I Loved Her First".)

The farmhouse is decked out for fall.

9/26/08 The weather has changed so much in the last week - it's really starting to feel like Fall here. I love it! I've been so busy at home decorating and getting our home ready for company. Mack's daughter is getting married next week and all of his 'out-of-town' family are coming over Sunday morning for breakfast. Fall is my favorite time of year to decorate. I love the colors and the coziness of the season.
If you haven't seen our farm wagon, I'll be posting pictures soon. We're pulling it out of storage this weekend and decorating it for harvest. Mack surprised me with it for Christmas a few years ago - it's over 100 years old - totally restored - he had it shipped all the way from South Dakota on a flat bed truck just because I mentioned that I loved a wagon that was sitting at a nearby farm. (Yes, I realize how lucky I am.)
The new pizza restaurant two doors up from us has finally opened and, let me tell you, it is SO GOOD! It's so much more than pizza on the menu- we've eaten there almost every day since they opened. You'll have to come downtown and try it out.
Speaking of downtown - Saturday, October 4 is the annual Arts Festival on Salem Street. The street will be closed to vehicles that day and the Apex Arts Council will be hosting dozens of various artists that will be exhibing up and down Salem Street.
I just picked up a new artist at The Rusty Bucket - an amazing local doll maker. I'm posting pictures of a couple of them but they don't do her items justice.
We've expanded our line of food products from Duplin Winery. Duplin Winery is located in Rose Hill, NC - close to Wilmington. Other than the winery, the only place to find their food products is at The Rusty Bucket. These make great gift items but the grilling sauces, jams and dressings will really make your meal special. They have a hint of the southern muscadine grape which provides a unique sweet flavor.

New artwork has arrived this week. I can't keep those stretched canvas prints in stock. These are very affordable. We had a few more of those come in along with some framed pieces Here are a few shots of some of the framed art we got in:

This piece is very large. Mack was laughing at me - after it was hung I was on the ladder trying to "look in the window of the General Store" to see what I could find.

These next two prints have all the colors of fall. As a matter of fact, the one above is called "Autumn Tranqility" and the large one below is "Early One October".

Lots of folks have been signing up for our Bonus Club - be sure to ask us for a card when you come in. It's a great way to get FREE MERCHANDISE and who doesn't love that!
Looking forward to seeing you soon. Pam
9/15/08 So much as happened since my last post. The most frustrating thing was my hard-drive crashed on my computer taking with it my back-up system. I lost 99% of my files - including all my email contacts. If you've gotten my emails in the past and would like to continue to receive them, please email me at shopkeeper@therustybucket.biz and make sure I have you on the list. It took me almost a month to get my computer back and running - technology is a wonderful thing until it goes wrong...
I've recently acquired a new local craftsman - a furniture maker that is making custom pieces exclusively for us at The Rusty Bucket. Be sure to check out "What's New" and see some of the pieces we currently have in stock.
Our Fall Open House was this past weekend. We had some of our local craftpeople and artists in the store Friday evening. I wanted to share some of the photos from the evening with you. Again, you can see more of our fall items under "What's New".

Rain or Shine - this crew shows up about an hour before our Open Houses to be the first in the door! True "Bucket Heads"!!

Shopping the card rack in the back room! Crowds arrive on Friday night.

Mike with his birdhouses. Ellen Jane with her products.

Jayne had her loom set up and was weaving some of the coverlets we carry in the store.

Jan with her quilted pieces. Jennifer brings us lots of handmade dolls.

Monday, Ausut 18, 2008 One of the things I love about being a part of downtown Apex is all the activities down town. This past Saturday, Mack and I went the the concert at the depot. The town has a series of outdoor concerts at the train depot. These are all family friendly and FREE. This past week a jazz-funk band"Children of the Horn" played.

View from the stage prior to concert Kids decorate the pit with chalk drawings
The next concert will be "Shaggin' at the Depot" on Friday, August 29 from 7-9PM. This will be a beach music party with DJ Joey Warren, The LadyBugs, Super-Skippers, character dancers from Infinity Ballet and the Bass Lake Shag Society. Free shag lessons will be given throughout the night. You CAN'T live in NC and not know how to shag!!!!
Sunday, August 17, 2008 We had a huge storm that past weekend that changed the landscape of our backyard. We had lots of rain and high winds - the winds blew down on of the big oak trees in the backyard. These trees have been standing on the old farm for many generations and it was sad to see one of them go. Here's a picture of the tree before and after:

8/8/08 Mack and I want to thank you so much for all for your nice cards, messages and the adorable drawings from kids while he was sick. We had a bit of a scare a few weeks ago when he was rushed to the emergency room with congestive heart failure. According the the cardiologist, after going thru lots of test, a virus of some kind got into his system over the past year and damaged his heart. He's getting much stronger and feeling much better. I'm so thankful for that.
Don't you love these new white fleece sheep plates?

I have a "thing" for houses and stars. This group satisfies my love for each. The little houses on pedistals are great individually or grouped together.

We just picked up a new line of reed diffusers. These are the cutest I've ever seen. Rather than just a bottle that you stick the reeds in - these are hand-dipped wax containers handmade (one at a time) in Ohio. As a matter of fact, the owner of the company came to the store today and dropped off my order for me on their way to vacation at the Outer Banks.

I've got them in four scents - Applejack, Clove, Cinnamon Fig and Mapel Pecan Streusel. These small absolutely wonderful and the best part is that I'm getting the refills so you don't have to buy the whole things over and over. These are packaged in a plastic tie bag and will make a great gift - never too early to start thinking about the holidays. Speaking about holidays, I'll be getting the containers in both pumpkin and snowman shapes.
To use, pour all the oil into the wax vessel. Add the reed diffusers and flip immediately so both ends are wet. Allow 24-36 hours for reeds to become saturated and give off their best fragrance. Flip reeds occasionally for even better results. Note: Place the wax vessel on a small plate or runner. Staining may occur if placed directly on furniture.
August is our annual "Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation" food drive for Western Wake Crisis Ministry. Every year, this ministry distributes food to approximately 300 families (over 700 people) each month. The need is greater than ever this year. Please help The Rusty Bucket help those in need.
During the month of August, bring in non-perishable food items, toiletries, baby items and receive 10% off your purchase for every 6 items you bring in - up to 30% off. (This discount does not apply to Johnston Benchworks or special orders.)
Last year, we collected 702 pounds of food. Our goal this year is 1000 pounds. Help us make it happen!

7/5/08 Apex Old Fashioned 4th of July
If you and your family missed the Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration in historic downtown Apex yesterday, you missed a great time. There had to be three times as many people downtown for the event as last year. There were games, food and fun for the whole family. Mack took over 500 pictures so I wanted to share some of the fun with you.
The vendors arrived bright and early to set up. Events started at 9:00 AM.

There were "trains" to ride..............and...................."mountains" to climb.

The crowd increased the closer to parade time it got.

There were clowns and snowcones. Both sure to bring a smile!

"Uncle Sam" led off the parade.

Olivia ("Little Bit") from the Ice Cream Shop enjoys the ride.

Everyone loves to cool off at the end of the parade with the Apex Fire Department's "Splash Down"

6/25/08 Yard Sale Update
We had a great YARD SALE last Saturday (our 3rd annual yard sale). It started at 8:00 AM and people were arriving as early as 7:00AM We overheard from one lady in this eager bunch that they refer to themselves as "Bucket Heads". Some came from as far away as South Carolina, Florida and Alabama.

The "Bucket Heads" surge begins

There were lots of great deals and people were grabbing them by the armloads! Everyone was in good spirits with lots of laughter and fellowship. That's what "Bucket Heads" do!

Don and Mary make the yard sale every year. They came back 3 times during the day this year and totally filled their van!! Did we have bargains...or what?? On their last pass thru, they got over $1300 worth of items for around $300!

"...Hold it! Hold it Mary - The van is FULL!" Now that's one happy customer!

Even the kids (Junior Bucket Heads) had fun

They come in all shapes and sizes but always with a smile.

It's Summertime at The Bucket
We just got in the cutest red enamelware - these are very affordable, non-breakable and great for summer picnics, fall tail-gating or every day casual dining.

These denim 'pocket' placemats look great with the enamelware. (I had some really cute red bandana napkins in them and sold them ALL within hours of putting them out so I've got to reorder those.) I don't know if you can see the little picnic ants scattered around the table. They each have a different food item they're busy carting away from the table.

These lightening bug jars are back by popular demand. I was able to only get a limited quantity and when they are gone - I'm out until next year. They are battery operated - the 'bugs' actually gently flicker off and on like the real thing. These look great on a summer porch or as a nightlight in a child's room.

This table is all set for a summer picnic. We now have the canvas tote bags that are also great for 'green' shopping.

Our friend, Jennifer, brought in this handstiched Raggedy Ann pillow this morning that she made. Isn't she adorable? Jennifer assures me she's got several others coming.
Don't forget our ANNUAL YARD SALE is SATURDAY, JUNE 21 beginning at 8:00 AM. This is a much anticipated event and only happens once a year. Don't be late!!

Come see our antiques! The Rusty Bucket Announces a New Offering to Its Customers One-of and Unique Original Antiques
We have been very fortunate to recently pick up some wonderful one-of-a-kind antiques. These are great primitive pieces and a new offering of The Rusty Bucket that we're very excited about. I think these will be a good complement to the other items we carry and provide you a more diverse selection of inventory - both antique reproductions and, now, original antiques.

I LOVE this antique doll house! It's huge!

This is a very primitive grain bin in a wonderful blue paint that looks great filled with long stem florals! The wood bird cage next to is is also an antique.

This rare tin toffee canister is really old and unusual.

A great old writing desk and chair set. Wouldn't it look good as a foyer piece or in a living room corner or kitchen nook?

A very old jug shelf with its original green paint - put together with a mortise construction - makes a great porch or garden piece.

This section of old wrought iron fencing would be lovely in your garden!

This antique wrought iron rooster pot rack is adaptable to primitive as well as a french or cottage country kitchen setting.
As these pieces are antiques, when they're gone - they're gone. Come by and see them. We'll be adding more soon. We're exciting about this new aspect of The Rusty Bucket look. Pam
6/6/08 What Sharon Collects
Sharon Stewart that works here has a great tomato pin cushion collection. Some she makes and others she picks up on her travels. Here's what she says about them:
I have been collecting tomato pincushions for many years. It wasn't until after awhile that I realized I had so many I needed a better way to display them so I put a bunch of them in a glass jar. But they keep multiplying and I've had to add another jar to the collection to hold more of them. They are just so appealing to me mostly because of my sewing background. I collect other sewing related items, but the tomatoes are my favorite. Anytime I am out antiquing, I always keep my eyes open for tomatoes. I now have a couple of friends hooked on them too, so there's competition!!
She has such a great way to display them. Sharon's currently teaching a tomato pin cushion class at The Rusty Bucket. Just looking at her's makes me want to sign up for the class and start my own collection!
Be sure to send me pictures of your collection so I can post it too!

(If you need a better copy of the events, let me know and I can email one to you or you can pick a copy up at the checkout in the shop)
6/5/08 What do you collect?
So many of us have things that have caught our eye and interest, I thought it would be fun to start a feature on my blog about what we all collect. I'm going to start with a few items that Mack and I collect (we actually have several but these are some fun ones to start with). I'd love for you to email me with photos of your collection so I can post them and share with all our 'blog friends'.
Email your photos and a description to: shopkeeper@therustybucket.biz
OK, my favorite collection is one that most of you would just call "plain ugly". While they may be, I just LOVE these handmade primitive dolls. They have so much personality and I think the reason I love them so is that I can't look at them without laughing. The usually sit together on a settle bench inside my front door. This grouping is accented with a farmhouse sign, a berry willow tree, a handmade stuffed crow and locally made watermelon stitchery. The cotton hat was one my Grandma Earley always wore when working in her garden so it holds a special place of honor.

See what I mean about making you laugh? The stitchery reads "Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits".

Mack has a cute collection. As you know, we have a 1930 Model A truck. Mack started collecting small Model A trucks and it sort of grew from there. This is a cabinet he put together with the majority of his collection. (I just saw the power strip in the photo - shame on me!)

Please send us your photos so I can post those. We'd love to see and share what all you collect.

5/31/08 Johnston Benchworks Price Increase
I received a letter this week from Keith Johnston, President of Johnston Benchworks. Their company, like many others, is feeling the impact of the increased cost of petroleum-based products (as we are all painfully aware, the price per barrel of oil has increased over 1,600% since 1998). Many of the materials used in manufacturing upholstered furniture are made from petroleum (most significantly polyurethane foam – the main component of all the products they make).
Many of their competitors raised prices in January in response to earlier polyurethane foam price increases but JBW held their prices levels flat at that time. However, they no longer can continue to do so. Effective June 8, Johnston Benchworks will be raising their prices. As you may or may not know, prices for this furniture line are dictated by the manufacturer. That’s why the few times we have a sale it is a ‘factory authorized sale’.
I wanted to make you aware of the upcoming price increase. If you are seriously considering ordering a chair, any orders placed with the company prior to June 7 will have the current pricing.
We currently have the following pictured chairs remaining on the floor that are priced at 2007 levels. If one of these in-stock chairs will fit your needs, we will take an additional 10% off should you purchase them prior to the June 7 price increase date.

5/27/08 The "Rusty Bucket" flags are flying on Salem Street. Last year, the Apex Downtown Business Association (ADBA) purchased the tea-dyed flag runners from us to hang on Salem Street. They're a great fit for the historic district and look wonderful. So many people comment on how good they look. They'll hang downtown from Memorial Day until just after July 4th. We have the runners, 50 star flags, colonial (13 star) flags and buntings in the store. They sell out from the manufacturer as we get closer to July 4th. Don't miss out on them this year!

We were graced with the presence of a "princess" at the store last week. I had to share this photo with you. Isn't she precious?

Sunrise on 'the farm' is worth getting up for. Mack was up early and caught daybreak this morning. It's a beautiful time of day with the birds calling to each other and a time to be reflective and thankful for all the things we have. Maybe you'll get a chance to do the same one morning.

Everyone is sure missing the Salem Street Soda Shop. However, former owners, Wade J. and Sharon Baker just returned from a trip to the Bahamas and stopped in to visit. They were looking all tanned and RELAXED and it was great to get to chat with them. I know they're enjoying their free time, but we sure miss the Soda Shop.

5/22/08 Join our McCalls Candle Club.
Pick up a candle card in the store. Each time you purchase a 16-oz McCalls Candle, have your card punched. After five candles, you’ll get ONE FREE.
To help you get started, as a “website special” mention MY BLOG and get 20% off your first candle.
If you haven’t tried McCalls candles, these are THE BEST smelling candles you could ask for. They will really scent up your home and have a clean, even burn to them. Be sure to check out the newest summer scents - Fresh Strawberries and Watermelon. Yummy!

The Rusty Bucket will be OPEN Memorial Day from 10 AM - 3 PM.
Have a great holiday. Pam
5/19/08 You're Never Too Old to Learn
Yesterday was my birthday. I don't mind telling my age - I'm 53. You'd think at this ripe old age, I'd have figured this out by now. You know how you do things every day of your life and never think about them? Am I the only person in the world that struggles with plastic wrap and aluminium foil and wax paper and it falling out the the box or the box tearing?? Did you know that on the side of these boxes there is a little tab that you fold in and that tab keeps the roll in the box? Who knew there were directions for using aluminum foil?
I had a great birthday. Mack surprised me with an antique butter churn - the kind on 4 legs with a iron wheel that you turn to spin the paddles inside. It makes a great unusual end table. My boys came over for dinner. It was a beautiful day - what more can I ask for?

My son CJ brought these flowers. I wish there was some way to share the scent - they are amazing. You can literally smell them throughout the entire house. Aren't they gorgeous?

Pam
5/15/08 Anyone that knows me, knows that there are two things I love - playing in the dirt and baking. We just put a new flower bed in front of the house a few weeks ago and I've been like a kid in a new sandbox. It's still not finished yet, but I wanted to share the progress to date.

Now, for my other favorite thing to do.....strawberries are ripe and wonderful right now. This is one of my favorite EASY strawberry cakes that I hope you'll enjoy.
Fresh Strawberry Cake
1 package white cake mix - baked according to package directions for sheet cake and cooled
2 pints of fresh strawberries (hulled and thinly sliced) 1/2 cup sugar
Stir berries with sugar - using spoon to break up the berries to make them juicy (if you let them sit in the refrigerator for an hour or so, they will get juicier)
Poke holes in the cooled cake with the end of a wooden spoon. Pour berries over cake and top with cool whip. Refrigerate for several hours to ensure the flavors have a chance to mellow.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You won't be baking a cake with these hand stitched wool berries, but they'll look wonderful on your table next to your fresh strawberry cake. I just love these!

Isn't this little 'pregant' Annie doll the cutest?

These are our new Early American one-of-a-kind gold leaf pieces from local artist, Pam Wilson.

Come visit when you can. Pam

Happy Mother's Day
This weekend is Mother's Day and, if you are lucky enough to still have your mother, I hope you are able to spend some special time with her. My mother is in Kannapolis - just outside of Charlotte. We are going to visit with her on Sunday and then with Mack's mom in Wilmington a day or two later.
Tomorrow, May 10, is our Mother's Day Open House in the store. We'll have door prizes and food tastings. We also got a few new items in that would make great gifts for that special mother.

These mason jar wire baskets come with a wire 'frog' for holding your flowers upright. We also have the 'frogs' you can buy separate and add to your own jar. These are great for anyone that has a flower garden or loves fresh flowers.

The lights below are the neatest things I've had in a while. First you get a slim candle light base and then you add a cover. You can change the covers as your mood changes or as the seasons go by. (There are also great holiday covers coming later in the year.) These are fun - I think you'll really like them.

Have a great weekend. Hope to see you at our Open House.
Pam
5/5/08 This past Saturday was Peak Fest - Apex's 28th annual spring festival. The weather was gorgeous and there were thousands of folks downtown. I wanted to share some of the day's events with you. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Saturday's weather was gorgeous and lots of people turned out for Peak Fest this year.

Vendors lined Salem Street from Highway 55 down past the ole train depot.

Even Barney and Goober dropped in from Mayberry!

Barney shows off his one bullet!

My son CJ is a rising senior at NC State so you KNOW I had to have a picture with these two!

4/30/08 In my last post, I mentioned all the rain we were getting. We got home Monday afternoon just as the rain was stopping and I looked out back to find the most amazing double rainbow. We were able to see it from one end to end. Mack ran out with the camera and got these pictures for me. I hope you find it as breathtaking as I did...

From one end........ to the other........

And then the sun broke through!

April Showers bring May flowers and......
new dip mixes!!!
I love the rain we've been getting the past couple days. I got my garden planted this weekend and hopefully its getting a good soaking and not washing away! There's nothing I like more than garden fresh tomatoes - nothing says summer like a messy fresh tomato sandwich. You can't get much better or easier than that.

Speaking of easy - my new line of gourmet dip mixes came in this morning. If you've never tried Country Home Creations, you will LOVE these.

I used them for years and am so happy to finally be carrying them in the store. This company's mixes have won many awards over the past 20 years - they use only premium natural ingredients and even someone that can't boil water can create a wonderful gourmet creation. We'll be sampling them this Saturday, May 3, during Peakfest. Come downtown for our annual spring festival and give them a try! Pam
4/26/08 - It's time to start thinking about being prepared to celebrate and honor our military and the birth of our country. While we wait for the tea stained flags to be placed out on Salem Street for these celebrations, The Rusty Bucket has them waiting for you. Our store is all decked out in our patriotic finest. Following are a few pictures Mack took yesterday so I could share them with you. Have a great weekend!

4/22/08 The tea-dyed American flags are back in. I just unpacked a shipment today. We sold out of these last year and then people were wanting them for July 4th and I couldn't get them - the company I buy them from sold out. Here is a picture on one hanging on the front porch of our farm house last summer.

This one is the "Betsy Ross" 13 star. We also have the 50 star, large runners and buntings. Downtown Apex bought the large flag runners from us last year and hung them from the lamp posts for July 4th. They looked so good and were a great addition to our historic downtown. Memorial Day will be here next month. Don't wait and be disappointed!
Pam
4/16/08 Well, the store is all fresh and rearranged. We came in Sunday and spent the afternoon rearranging - I think you'll like the new look. It was time for a change. Here is a picture of the front window area by the checkout:

I love all the black painted furniture together! You can see a set of some of the new flag finials we got in. These are great for summer patriotic accents. Speaking of flags - I've got the tea-dyed American flags and buntings so many of you love on order and should have them in stock in the next few weeks - just in time for Memorial Day celebrations.
Come visit - Pam
4/12/08 We live in an old farmhouse about 5 miles out of town. The house needs a lot of work but we LOVE the surrounding area - it's so peaceful out there. Deer are plentiful (much to my chagrin for my flowers and vegetable garden), there's fox and (my neighbors tell me and fortunately I've never seen) bobcats. There's very little light pollution and the sky at night is so full of stars we sometimes take walks at night when there is a full moon just to enjoy them and the peace and quiet.
One morning this week, after several days of rain, I got up and the early morning fog was so pretty I just wanted to share it with you. Hope you enjoy this small piece of my world.

We've been working the past couple days trying to get "What's New" updated - check it out - things are selling as fast as I can get them on there!
I sent an email out last week about the birdhouses and benches I picked up from a local craftsman. Following are photos of a few of them.

I have almost sold out since last week - that was an entire truckload! He's supposed to be bringing more next week so if you missed them there are HOPEFULLY more on the way!
We're got our featured Artisian updated - check out some of Debbie's new pieces on What's New along with more of her artwork under the Featured Artisian Link on the Home Page.
Also our Customer Profile has been updated. Check out Loretta- she drives over an hour one way to get here and sometimes we see her two to three times a week!
Enjoy the rainy weekend and come visit - bring your children or husband - TV is always on in the Keeping Room.

We’re in the process of changing “Shopkeepers Message” on the website to a blog. There’s still quite a bit of work to do to enable me to add pictures etc but I plan to be updating this section several times a week. Be sure to log in and visit it often – that’s where I’ll have the most current info regarding happenings at The Rusty Bucket and downtown Apex.
3/27/07
Well, a local craftsperson showed up this morning with a truck load of really cool birdhouses (the kind you can put a light in) ranging from 2' to 5' tall! Not only that, there were picket benches that would be great on a porch or in a garden - large rustic wood chairs that would hold a plant - narrow ladders wrapped in grapevine, rustic wood garden accents - I loved it so much I bought the entire load!!! Can't wait for you to see! Pictures to be posted soon.
COME VISIT! Pam

1/24/08 WE WON Country Business Magazine's RETAILER OF THE YEAR!!!!!
Needless to say, we are so excited!!!! We were presented the award Monday at a special seminar/luncheon at the Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago. We had been asked to participate on a panel to talk to other retailers about how to get locally handmade products in their stores. After the seminar, the editor of Country Business magazine presented the three finalists and announced Country Business "Retailer of the Year - 2007" – THE RUSTY BUCKET!
In addition to our award, Country Business presented the "Vendor of the Year - 2007" to Blossom Bucket – a company that we buy lots of really cute items from. The awards luncheon was attended by 80+ and the ceremony was topped off with a champagne toast by all to the winners and runners up.
We didn’t get back into town until after midnight Tuesday due to delays coming out of Chicago and were at the store very early yesterday morning to meet the magazine editor, Susan Wagner and Ray Gaulke President of the Gift & Home Channel from New York. The Gift & Home Channel is an online training channel for retail store owners and their employees. He had his film crew here and we spent all day yesterday doing video clips with them. The training module we were asked to participate in was "Marketing and Promotions of a Retail Business".
I couldn’t wait to get in here to tell you about us winning! I’ve got some photos attached to share with you.
- - one photo is of Mack and I with our trophy
- - one photo is a group photo of us, Susan Wagner, the couple on the right are the runner’s up from RI, and on the left is the owners of two wholesale companies that were the winner and runner up for the "Vendor of the Year".
- - The last two shows us in the store yesterday with the film crew making “stars” of us & The Rusty Bucket.
Did I mention this was a shopping trip too? Amongst all the excitement, we also found time for shopping and have found lots of great new items for the shop. To prevent this email from being so long, I’ll save those for later.
New items are coming in each week – come visit and see them and check out our trophy!!!
Continue to stay tuned – Mack and I are busy finishing up our 2008 Events Calendar and February will be a month long celebration of our selection as "Retailer of the Year" . We want you to join in the celebration with us because it is GREAT customers like each of you that made this award possible.

1/14/08 We are so excited here at The Rusty Bucket.
We are one of three finalists, out of potentially hundreds of stores, for a national award.. “Country Business” magazine is a trade magazine, owned by Country Sampler Group, that caters to stores like ours across North America and has been in circulation for 15 years. Every year they pick a Retailer of the Year that they think exemplifies the best of all country stores and this year is their 10th annual award.. Their magazine, showing the finalists, came out this week and I just had to share it with you.
The magazine is flying Mack and I to Chicago this Saturday where the winner will be announced at a special awards ceremony on Monday, January 21 at the Chicago Buyers Market.
We are so pleased to just be considered and immensely grateful for your support over the past three years. You have helped strengthen our business and service to the community in a way that has given us the visibility, and now the recognition, as a finalist for this award.
Thank you so much for all you mean to us. Watch for an email next week to let you know the outcome!! (Keep your fingers crossed!)

I’m excited to tell you about a new venture The Rusty Bucket is now a part of. We have partnered with the owners of Aversboro Road Coffee Shop in Garner to create a new type of coffee house. One that provides “coffee, sweets and needful things”. This new concept incorporates a coffee shop setting and a retail store offering The Rusty Buckets product and décor for sale. The concept captures the cozy and warm feeling you find at The Rusty Bucket creating a new and unique shopping experience. We’ve started our transition at the coffee shop and plan to expand our items for sale there after the first of the year. If you’re in that area, please stop by and visit this new location at 1401 Aversboro Road. (The Aversboro Mocha is to die for!!!!) By December 1, our website should be updated to provide photos of the coffee shop.
I wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving. We would be negligent if Mack and I didn’t take this time to thank you personally for your friendship and continued support of our business. So many of you have become our extended family and we are very fortunate to have such wonderful customers as you. We have so much to be thankful for and so many blessings – least we not forget that others may not be as fortunate and blessed. During this season of Thanksgiving, lets keep our hearts and prayers for the many men and women and their families that are in service of our country during this time of war. May God be with them and keep them safe as we pray for a quick and safe return home.
Come visit -

- Small handmade wool pumpkins in orange and white with wood stems – great in a bowl or mixed with potpourri
- Resin pinecone bowl fillers

8/11/07 It’s been crazy here at the store and I am so delinquent in updating you on our Johnston Benchworks chair sale and our Anniversary Open House.
We had such a great response to our chair sale – we sold 34 chairs during the month of July. The ONLY store that beat us was a 4000 sq ft furniture store in Pennsylvania that sold 52. Out of the Top 50 Johnston Benchworks retailers, we ended up #2 in chair sales for this promotion. Because of this, we decided to give away not one but TWO chairs to celebrate our 3-year anniversary. Following are the winners from that weekend:
Johnston Benchworks Wing Chairs
Loretta Williams
Peggy Moulthrop
Folk Art Print
Mike and Lynette Mayo
Gift Basket of food items from Duplin Winery
Patricia Ferrell
$20 Gift Certificates
Becky Sloan
Adam Perrego
Julie Diamond
Nancy Graybeal
Jimsey Johnson
Gift Certificate to Duplin Winery
JC Knowles
Congratulations to all the winners!
After July, our store was starting to look a little lean but LOTS of new items are coming in weekly. Most are fall items that will be put out for our Fall Open House on September 14 & 15, but new items in the store right now are:
- Lots of new signs (some from our normal vendors and some brand new lines that I think you will love)
- Reed Diffusers (in Orange Clove, Buttered Maple Syrup (like the best selling candle we carry in the store), and Cinnamon Bun scents
- New lamps by Lt. Moses Willard Lighting Company (www.ltmoses.com)
- 2008 Wall Calendars
- Adorable cookie melts for your tart burners (these smell SO GOOD!)
- New handtowels
- Recipe Cards
- A new line of room sprays and scented oils
Chef William of Duplin Winery was here for our Anniversary celebration and everyone LOVED the food items he was cooking up. He’s agreed to come back on Friday evening of our Fall Open House – you won’t want to miss this! In the meantime, we are the ONLY place you can get Duplin Winery food products other than the winery itself.
Don’t forget our food drive to support Western Wake Crisis Ministry – “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Vacation”. Bring in non-perishable food items or toiletries and get 10% discount for each 10 items you bring in (up to 20%). This is a great way to give-back and help others and get a discount for yourself. The food drive goes thru the end of August.

Oh boy – has it ever been busy here at the store with new things coming in. (Someone came in today and had to help me pick Styrofoam peanuts out of my hair after having my head upside down in a couple big boxes) We have so many new things in that I can’t wait for you to see.
We got a reorder of the very popular candle sleeves which keep selling out. There are many new designs that we picked up at market plus some really cute Easter and spring ones. Many of you had been asking for more of the light strands with brown wire – those are finally back in also. We got a new shipment of wax crumbles to go in your melters – wonderful scents like: Country Clothesline, Sage and Citrus, Peach Cobbler, Sunshine and Laughter, and Citrus and Spice.
Speaking of things that smell good…our McCalls Classic of the Month is Apple Butter. This candle is 25% off while supplies last. Several people have been looking for the magnetic calendars/organizers that you fill in the month and dates along with your activities that we had last year. Those, along with more of the magnetic phone list that goes on the refrigerator, came in today.
When we were at market, we ran into a lady that made historically accurate, heirloom quality, hand-woven textiles. Imagine our surprise to find out she just moved to Raleigh, NC! She has agreed to come to The Rusty Bucket this summer and bring one of her portable looms for demonstrations (she frequently does this in historic Williamsburg). In the meantime, we just got in our first batch of her textiles – table runners and table squares in coverlet designs like Lee’s Surrender and Keeping Room. This weaver is listed in Early American Life’s Gallery of American Crafters. Another great line we picked up at market was from a family out of Leawood, Kansas that makes historical reproduction wrought iron candle stands and holders. These items also came in this week. We actually found this line last year when we went to market and placed an order that we thought we would have by August and never received. This company was so popular at market and, since they hand make each item, were not able to meet the demands in the timeframe they would have liked. We’re pleased to finally have them in stock.
Yet another market find – Red Oaks Pottery has just sent us the cutest spring redware plates – with designs like bunnies, beehives and bird nests. You can see some of her work at www.redoakspottery.com. We also have received some berry candle rings in whites and soft yellows along with some really cute ones that have beehives and bumblebees mixed in with the berries. Last summer, many of you fell in love with the firefly jars – these are great for on a porch or in a childs room. These are also back in stock.
You also have to see the lighted houses on a fence post we just brought in. These are adorable to put by your front door or as an accent anywhere in your home. (I’m dying to have one by MY front door!!)
Our local crafters have been very busy. Sharon has a table full of handmade wool strawberries, a big basket of wool chicks and another of wool tomato pincushions. These are all so cute – you just have to see them! Doris recently brought in a fresh batch of new stitcheries and Ellen Jane brought in the cutest rabbits made out of gourds (these are going fast!).
We picked up a couple new crafters also. Lin Davis from Pittsboro makes handwoven baskets out of reed and wicker- some with sea grass accents. She uses all natural dyes and dips the baskets in a light polyurethane mixture to make them stain resistant – just rinse them off as needed. There are large market type baskets and some really cute one that would make a very special Easter basket. Debbie Brooks does folk art painting. She recently brought in several painted boxes – a couple desktop size and one footstool size. One of the neatest things that Debbie does is do custom folk art paintings of your home. We have an example of one that she did in the store. Give her a picture of your home and let her do a great folk art painting. This is a great Anniversary idea or if you are moving a great way to keep the memory of your home.
There are a few Johnston Benchworks upholstered chairs in the store that are on sale. We have new items coming in and need to move these to make room. If you are looking for a new chair, and one of these can work for you, these are at a great price and can be better since you’re an email customer. Let us know you’re in my email club and I’ll take an additional 10% off the sale price of these chairs:
Crescent Ridge Loveseat – Red buffalo check MSRP: $1049 Sale Price: $650 Email Club: $585
Rolled arm bench – Black Willow Tree MSRP: $819 Sale Price: $499 Email Club: $449
Pores Knob Wing & matching Footstool – Red Willow Tree MSRP: $1539 Sale Price: $900 Email Club: $810
Appalachian Chair – Red Coverlet MSRP: $1089 Sale Price: $685 Email Club: $616
Stony Fork Wing – Navy Coverlet MSRP: $1309 Sale Price: $820 Email Club: $738
As you can see, we’ve been busy. NEXT WEEKEND, March 23 & 24, will be our Spring Open House. Put it on your calendar to join us for refreshments and drawings for giveaways. However, be sure to drop in before then because the spring items are going fast!!!
Date: 03-01-2007
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying this spring-like weather here while it lasts. Lots of new items continue to arrive practically each day. We’ve gotten in the cutest little spring chicks that have already started going out the door pretty quickly. A new local craftsperson has brought in some handmade rabbits on rusty coils that are really cute – and, like the chicks, are going quickly. Our rabbits are trickling in (some we’re holding back until the spring open house later this month).
We finally got the yellow-ware dinner plates in that have been on backorder for some time plus a new shipment of black and cream check placemats (these keep selling out!). New treenware came in just yesterday and it’s also moving fast – I’ve sold eight pieces today! This morning, we received a shipment of braided chairpads and placemats that many of you have been looking for.
At long last, we FINALLY got in Fuquay-Varina town signs – these have been requested by so many people and it took us a long time to actually get an established date since they were, at one time, two separate towns. We had sold out of Holly Springs signs but they are back in stock now also.
One of the new accent furniture lines we picked up at market was a line of handmade Colonial American pieces from a family that handcrafts all of their items in their workshop and home in Powell, Ohio. Their painted finished are made to resemble the furniture painted during the 18th and 19th centuries by utilizing a six-step process to create a museum, milk paint finish. We recently received a half-round table, a “lollipop” bucket bench, a flip top bench that converts from a small lift-top storage bench to a table and a set of bed steps. Our furniture maker in Georgia just finished a tall case clock for us. This 6-1/2’ Shelbourne clock, painted black over red with a gold star accent, is gorgeous and would look wonderful in an entrance hall or family room. These can all be seen under “What’s New” on our website.
Speaking of the website, if you haven’t been lately, you need to see all the updates. Pictures of our major 2006 Events can be seen, along with “Twin Gables” our old farmhouse that we’re restoring and ‘testimonials’ from people that have taken the time out of their busy schedule to share with us their appreciation of what we’re doing with the store. Thank you so much for all the nice comments that we continue to get.
Back in our kitchen, we’ve added gourmet food products from Duplin Wineries in Rose Hill, NC. We now carry:
- Muscadine Orange Poppy Seed Dressing - Muscadine Tomato and Basil dressing
- Muscadine Jelly - Muscadine Dessert Topping
- Muscadine Smokehouse Grilling Sauce - Hattarus Red Wine Jelly
- Muscadine Pepper Jelly
Additionally, we are in the process of picking up NC wines from several different wineries. So many people stop in from out of town and are looking for local products to take back home with them. These are also good hostess gifts that you will be able to pick up while visiting the store. We can put together a nice gift bag with NC products and gift label for you.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Wagon Days winners:
Solid Oak Garden Wagon Wheel Sue Tice
$50 Rusty Bucket Gift Certificate Mary McGowan
McCalls Country Canning Candle Barbara Pierce
By now, you have all heard of our partnership with Sharon Stewart of Liberty Designs and Interiors for our Home Makeover Services. Sharon has recently completed Phase 1 of an extensive makeover she’s doing of a house in Raleigh. In this case, Mary wanted to convert a storage room into useable space. Sharon worked hand in hand with the contractors on the remodel and then, taking advantage of Mary’s amazing collection of primitives (many you will recognize from The Rusty Bucket) created a room to die for! Sharon is continuing to work with Mary on other parts of her house – organizing, re-appropriating furniture and decorating. I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of this project down the road. Check out the pictures at:

2007 market orders will continue to come in weekly for the months ahead. There’s lots of great items that I can’t wait to share with you. Mark your calendar for our SPRING OPEN HOUSE March 23 and 24. The folks from “Southern Twang” will be here that Saturday sampling their grilling sauce. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s great stuff!

Keep a lookout for Wagon Days. We’re going to celebrate our “wagon load of goods” we brought back from market by bringing down my 100 year old fully restored farmwagon that Santa gave me. Fun and Prizes. Watch for an email on this next week!

1/29/07 Market time is here. We’re leaving bright and early tomorrow morning for Pennsylvania on our annual spring buying trip. Sharon and Debbie will be holding down the fort so please come by to see them and if you haven’t been in during the past week – you HAVE to see the store. We have totally rearranged to spruce up from after Christmas and make room for all the new treasures we’ll bring back from market – I think you’re going to love the new look.
We got a reorder of the replacement candle sleeves that are so popular (we sold out completely during Christmas) and have already sold a lot of the larger ones that came in. New ones are also on the way. We also received a shipment of the cylinder jars that hold candles. The base of these jars can be filled with potpourri, shells, ornaments etc as the seasons change. These jars were a bit hit in the past. You also need to see the LARGE wrought iron wall sconces, bee skeps and antique white ducks. These are all new and very cool. Several people were looking for darker colors in the candle rings. We got a shipment in this week and are expecting another next week.
Sharon has brought in some really cool vintage valentines and handmade stuffed “valentine” birds. Doris brought in some beautiful stitcheries that would be great for valentines or any day.
We recently received a large order of signs. I’ve had difficulty in the recent past getting signs in due to illness from the company I had worked with in the past. Many of you have requested special orders that just didn’t come in. I have switched to a new company that will provide us with a quicker turnaround. If you were waiting on a particular sign, please give me that information again and I will see if the new company can turn it around quickly.
One of the best selling candles we have in the store is the buttered maple syrup candles with the NC label. The company sent me a reorder of these candles but they accidentally used a Kansas label rather than NC. These are available in the store at a discounted price of $18 (normally $24) – if you’re not picky about the state it’s the same amazing scent at a lower price. Obviously, these are a limited quantity at this price.
Don’t forget to pick up a treat for your valentine. We have 2 oz. heart shaped Belgium Chocolate lollipops - $3.50 Also, don’t forget your doggie. The lady that made the doggie treats during Christmas has brought in a fresh batch of valentine treats just for Fido.
The new winter issue of Mercantile Gatherings is out and in the shop.
Last by certainly not least; mark your calendar for the following events:
February 12 – 24 Wagon Days (much more to come on this)
JBW Factory Sale – Many of you have been asking about this additional 10% off sale – don’t miss it
March 23 – 24 Spring Open House
Look for an email next week with a report on all our market treasures.

I hope you’re getting nested back in after the Christmas holidays. We’ve been busy in the shop trying to get it put back in order and fill all the ‘holes’ left over from the holidays. We’ve been getting some new items in that I think you’re really going to like. We recently got in a large selection of tea towels in all colors. At only $4 each, these look great also as a table topper to add a touch of color and freshen things up in an instant. Sharon Stewart brought in some really cute handmade bird make-do’s and some hearts made from old quilts. These look great grouped together in a bowl.
Gooseberry Patch has a new line of cookbooks called “Gooseberry Patch Favorites”. These little index card size cookbooks sell for $8 and are their “favorite” recipes. We have them in the following titles: Appetizers, Chocolate Recipes, Grilling Recipes, Light & Easy, Slow Cooker, Recipes, and Quick and Easy. Be sure to check them out.
I recently found a new line of FOODSAFE yellow-ware. Most of the order is in house, however, I’m still waiting on the dinner plates. We have lunch and salad plates, soup bowls, mugs, along with serving pieces. These are wonderful – wait to you see the platter and the covered casserole dishes. I think you’ll love them as much as I do. We also got in some really nice paper mache stacking boxes and trays, some tavern signs and some wall mounted wrought iron plate racks that also hold a taper candle and two styles of tin sconces.
Katies Light House is known for their hand-crafted colonial era lighting fixtures. I recently received several hand-turned wood lamps with tin shades and two chandeliers that you have to see – one is a two-tier Williamsburg tin and the other is a New England Whaler. Both are beautiful and very reasonably priced – especially when you consider they are all handmade in the US.
Sharon did a great Valentine’s display at the front of the shop. We have vintage tag ornaments on a white feather tree, adorable candy boxes for $3 that you can either hang on your own tree or fill with chocolates and something special for your “someone special”. Doris brought in some handmade heart stitcheries this week also that make great year round gifts. When you’re looking at the Valentine’s display, take note of the farm table it’s sitting on. We’ve found a local crafter that makes these tables out of old wood. They can be custom ordered in any size or stain/color.
Many of you bought the wood arrows during the holidays with the falls and Christmas ‘faces’ on them. We now have replacements in wood hearts, bee hives, pineapples, bunnies and roosters.
There will be lots of new items continuing to come in over the next few weeks. Then STAY TUNED – we go to market in Pennsylvania the first week in February. Last year, we brought back a large truck load of wonderful finds and we’re planning on the same thing this year.
Come visit -

If you were able to make it to our Holiday Open House, THANK YOU so much for coming by. For those that weren’t able to come by, the store is still PACKED with holiday items. We took lots of pictures prior to and during the Open House. You can see some of them by copying the following web address and pasting it into your browser:
http://community.webshots.com/slideshow?ID=555606415&key=dXzszz.
We’ve recently gotten in a few more items. The new McCalls “Scent of the Month” is Country Christmas. We currently have this candle, along with the previous month’s scent, Orange Almond Biscotti, both at 25% off. During the Open House, we sold out of the large resin candy canes and several people were asking for them. I was able to reorder them and they are also now back in stock.
We have a few new “NC specific” items in the store. Last month we added a new salsa that is made in Cary, NC and almost sell out of it every time we sample it. This month we added a grilling sauce called “Southern Twang” (great name, huh?) that is also excellent and is made in Raleigh. Both of these are great gifts or stocking stuffers if you want to provide a special gift of something made locally.
As for other local items, our artists have been busy. Sharon has some beautiful handstitched santas and snowmen that she has made along with some of her popular heart ‘make-dos’. Several of Doris’ holiday stitcheries sold out during the Open House but she brought in more this week. We also added some really cute homespun rag-trees that are made locally and Lis has made some wonderful designer wreaths for us. There are still some of Ellen’s handpainted gourd ornaments left but they are going fast.
Friday, December 1 is “Christmas on Salem Street”. This street-wide holiday open house is a very special event. The mayor will be lighting the Christmas tree at the train depot at 6:00 PM accompanied by musicians from the Apex Baptist Church. The street is closed off from traffic for carolers and horse-drawn carriage rides. All the shops are decorated and open late serving refreshments to all the shoppers. It’s a magical evening that you won’t want to miss.
Saturday morning, December 2, the downtown Apex Fire Department will be hosting a “Pancake Breakfast with Santa” from 8 – 11AM. This is a great way to get in a visit with Santa for the kids and avoid the lines at the mall. Besides, proceeds from the breakfast benefit the Apex Fire Department. Saturday evening at 5:00 PM is the Apex Christmas Parade. The evening parade comes right by all the shops downtown and is also a fun family event.
Volunteers are needed for these events. If you would like to help out during the Friday evening or Saturday morning event, please give me a call at the store (290-2575). For doing so, I will provide you with a 10% discount on your next purchase.
Check out the pictures on the link provided and come visit when you can.

2006 is bringing some new exciting changes to The Rusty Bucket. First of all, we’ve added a new option to the webpage. The “What’s New” button on the Home page will be something that I will have the capability to update and add pictures of the latest inventory items. Be sure to check it out often. We’ve also updated some of the pictures on the “Tour of the Store”. If you haven’t looked at the slideshow lately, you’ll see some changes for sure.
Having recently returned from market in Pennsylvania, the store is restocked from it’s “after-Christmas” sparseness and is, once again, brimming with great new treasures. There are some great one-of-a-kind furniture pieces that I know you will love. Johnston Benchworks has quite a few new fabrics – some of which can be seen on the pieces currently on the floor in the store and also by clicking on the “What’s New” button that I mentioned previously.
The most exciting change this year is our association with Liberty Designs and Interiors and Sharon Stewart. A familiar face at The Rusty Bucket you may have become acquainted with her as she works most Mondays, holidays and special events. But what Sharon is truly known for is her ability to rearrange and decorate a room to it’s maximum potential – most of the time using the items you already own. Whether you want a single room to just be freshened up or a new look for your entire home, you will be amazed at the results. Information on The Rusty Bucket Home Makeover can be found on the “Home Page”. We look forward to the opportunity to offer fun and affordable decorating tailored to define your style, achieving comfort and making it a reality!
Finally, many of you have inquired; “Where’s Rusty?”. Fret not… the green 1930 Ford Model-A pick-up truck that you have become accustomed to seeing parked out front of the store has not been sold. But she’s just been in the shop having some well needed repairs. Just what you would expect from a 76-year-old gal she just needed some well deserved TLC.
I look forward to seeing you on your next visit to the store.
Pam

Welcome to our new website. We’re very excited about the changes that we’ve made and hope you’ll find the site informative and easy to navigate. Not only do we have a Tour of the Store that will enable you to see our products in the store but we now offer the flexibility of online shopping. Over time, we’ll be adding more products to the online store so please keep stopping by to see what’s new.
Make sure you check out our Rusty Bucket Community. This is a special place for Rusty Bucket customers to get to know each other, share decorating ideas, post pictures of your own decorating projects and Ask the Shopkeeper if there is something in particular that you’re looking for.
I’ll be providing periodic updates to the Shopkeepers Message as a way to keep you informed about special promotions or events or what’s new both at the store and on-line. Whether you live close by or across the country we hope you will stop by and visit often.
